BRISTOL, Tenn., (March 17, 200 
– The fifth stop of the 2008 season at Bristol Motor Speedway once again had the stars of the Sprint Cup Series experiencing indigestion-inducing incidents. From drivers on the edge of the top 35 in owner points to late-race engine troubles, a fair share of big-name drivers proved to have several TUMSâ moments. Each weekend, PRN lead anchor, Doug Rice, picks the Top-10 TUMS Moments from last weekend’s racing activities.
This week’s Top-10 TUMS honors go to:
10. For the second week in a row, the Nationwide race is a victim to weather. The die-hard fans wait out a two-hour rain delay to watch 171 laps of action. At least the race was entertaining.
9. Jimmie Johnson fails to regain his championship form. He runs in the top five for most of the race, but finishes 18th. His average finish this year is a meager 17.8.
8. Jamie McMurray has another rough day. His Crown Royal Ford finishes last.
7. After winning the Daytona 500, the magic seems to have deserted Ryan Newman. He is involved in a crash early and struggles to 33rd.
6. Mike Skinners’ day literally goes up in blaze as his Red Bull Toyota is engulfed in flames. Luckily, Mike is uninjured.
5. Dale Jarrett makes his last start in a point race and finishes an inglorious 37th. Thanks Dale for being such a great ambassador to the sport.
4. Jeff Green, John Andretti and Patrick Carpentier don’t have a chance to make the show when qualifying is rained out. I’m sure they could all use some Tums.
3. Kyle Petty manages to finish 28th at Bristol, but has now fallen to 40th in car owner points. He will now have to qualify on speed.
2. Denny Hamlin’s car sputters on the green-white-checkered restart. His chance at victory quickly evaporates.
1. Tony Stewart dominates the race, but is crashed out by Kevin Harvick with only two laps to go. Not sure if Tums makes anything for heartbreaking defeat.

TACOMA, Wash. (March 16, 200 - Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.) celebrated a long anticipated return to the Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS) winner’s circle at the Tacoma Invitational, held March 15-16 at the Tacoma Dome. It had been two long years since the two-time Professional Bull Riders (PBR) World Champion had earned a tour event title. When the curtain closed on tour stop No. 13 Shivers had dominated the action to the tune of $29,888, outgunning the top 45 in the world in Tacoma to end his slump.
Achieving a series of three excellent scores totaling 271 points, Shivers outdistanced runner up, Valdiron de Oliveira (Aparecida de Goiania, GO, Brazil), by a substantial nine and one half points to claim the victory. The win represented an important milepost to Shivers who said that for the last few years he’s been trying too hard to make the wins happen.
“I’ve been riding decent and feeling pretty good, I just hadn’t been putting anything together,” Shivers said. “I think a lot of it’s mental. You show up to these events and want to win so bad and when it’s been so long since you have, it makes you try that much harder and not focus on the things you should focus on.”
Shivers’ focus was in the right place in Tacoma where he returned to the championship form that has made him a fan favorite and carried him to $3,373,456 in PBR career earnings. He split third and fourth place money in round one with 89.75 points on Don Kish Bucking Bulls’ Blood Sucker to get his momentum going. He then covered Chad Berger and Clay Struve’s Almost Famous for 90 points and second in round two before advancing to the championship round ranked second behind Colby Yates (Ft. Worth, Texas).
It was all J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.) early in the Built Ford Tough Championship round, however, when he topped previously unridden Say I Won’t Gunner owned by Chad Berger and Clay Struve for 93.25 points and the high score of the event. Having qualified with one score, however, it was mathematically impossible for Mauney to earn the title if the remaining riders who already had a total of two scores to their credit made qualified rides during the short round. Mauney’s 181 point cumulative score led until Valdiron de Oliveira (Aparecida de Goiania, GO, Brazil) stole the lead with a 90.75 point ride on Don Kish Bucking Bulls’ Fine Wine. Ironically, current world standings leader Guilherme Marchi (Leme, Sao Paulo, Brazil) faced Chad Berger, Larry Ryken and Larson’s Copperhead Slinger once again in the championship round, earning 92.25 points to finish fourth overall behind Mauney. Marchi and Copperhead Slinger teamed up for an identical score during short round action in Portland, Ore., on Friday night, Mar. 14, where Marchi captured a win. Shivers was undaunted by the high scores on the board and his 91.25 point effort against Chad Berger, Clay Struve and Julie Rosen’s bull Cooper in the finals iced the win.
Thanks to a profitable weekend of bull riding in the Northwest, Marchi holds a 1,460.25 lead in the BFTS World Standings over Travis Briscoe (Edgewood, N.M.). He has managed to ride 83.33 percent of his bulls this season, recorded 7 90-point rides, has two event wins and seven top five finishes to his credit.
The PBR Bull Team Challenge was another nail biter in Tacoma. Twenty-two teams have been formed, each providing $50,000 for the opportunity to win their share of the $1.1 million total competition purse available throughout the 2008 season. The team known as Yankton Express scored 222.5 points to earn $20,000, while Northern Exposure and South Point tied with 220 points each. Each team took home $7,500.
Injury Report:
Dusty LaBeth (Louisburg, Kan.) sustained a concussion when he landed on his head after riding his first round bull in Tacoma on Saturday. He was unable to take a reride, but did compete on Sunday.
L.J. Jenkins (Texico, N.M.) sustained a concussion when he was kicked in the back of the head after being thrown from his bull Saturday night in Tacoma. He is not competing.
J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.) sustained a mildly separated left shoulder (riding arm) after he landed on his shoulder when he was thrown from his reride bull Saturday in Tacoma. He is probable for competition in Albuquerque.
Mike White (De Kalb, Texas) is out with a bruised low back and a sprained pelvis (right sacroiliac joint) after being stepped on when the bull threw him off Saturday in Tacoma. He is probable for Albuquerque.
Adriano Moraes (Cachoeira Paulista, Sao Paulo BRAZIL) aggravated a chronic back injury during the Portland Invitational on Friday night. He is not competing.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s “Ride with the Best” Bonus:
As the Portland Invitational first round winner, Guilherme Marchi (Leme, Sao Paulo, Brazil) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during Saturday night’s first round of competition in Tacoma. Marchi covered Corey & Horst Rodeo Company’s Hellfire for 88.25 points to earn the $5,000 bonus.
By virtue of his round one win, Renato Nunes (Buritama, Sao Paulo, Brazil) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during Sunday’s second round of competition in Tacoma. Nunes scored 88 points on Hawaiian Ivory owned by Flying U/Moreno Bucking Bulls to earn the $5,000 bonus.
As the Tacoma Invitational second round winner, Colby Yates (Ft. Worth, Texas) will be eligible for the bonus during the first round of the Ty Murray Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., on March 28-30.
Ford Truck Moment of Truth Bonus:
Colby Yates (Ft. Worth, Texas) was in the lead going into the Built Ford Tough Championship Round but did not ultimately win the Tacoma Invitational event title; therefore he did not claim the $5,000 Ford Truck Moment of Truth bonus. The bonus will be $10,000 when the Sandia Resort & Casino presents the Ty Murray Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., on March 28-30. The bonus grows by $5,000 each week if it is not claimed. Once claimed, it returns to $5,000.
Ford Super Duty Challenge:
As the Tacoma Invitational event winner, Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.) has qualified for a chance to compete at the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, against all other 2008 Built Ford Tough Series event winners, for $50,000 toward the purchase of a 2009 Ford Super Duty Truck. The Ford Super Duty Challenge contestant who finishes the highest in the event aggregate during the 2008 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals will win the Ford Super Duty Challenge.
Salem NationaLease Bull of the Event:
Diamond G Rodeos’ White Magic earned back to back Bull of the Event honors with a score of 47.5 points in Portland and 47 points in Tacoma. This honor is acknowledged by an award of $1,250 going to the top bull of each event as determined by the PBR judges’ bull scores.
Cabela’s World’s Foremost Ride:
J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.) recorded the highest marked ride of the event when he topped Chad Berger and Clay Struve’s Say I Won’t Gunner for 93.25 points during the championship round of the Tacoma Invitational. In doing so, he earned a $1,000 bonus.
The rider who achieves the highest score at each BFTS regular season event, excluding the PBR World Finals receives a bonus of $1,000 for the accomplishment. The PBR athlete who achieves the highest marked qualifying ride during the entire 2008 BFTS regular season, excluding the PBR World Finals event will receive $25,000, while second and third place finishers will be awarded $10,000 and $5,000, respectively. The bull rider who achieves the highest marked ride through the course of the entire 2008 PBR BFTS World Finals will earn an additional $10,000.
