NEW ORLEANS, La. (March 4, 2007) – A familiar name lit up the leader board tonight from the New Orleans Arena.  2005 PBR World Champion Justin McBride (Elk City, Okla.) rode his way to his third tour title in 2007, a win that was accompanied by a $30,660 payday and 732.5 tour points.  This weekend’s victory was a monumental 25th Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS) win for McBride.  Not far behind McBride tonight was PBR young gun J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C).  The two pro bull riders went three for three on the weekend and came out on top once again, maintaining their number one and number two spots in the BFTS standings respectively.

McBride entered the Built Ford Tough Championship Round in second place, trailing Wiley Petersen (Fort Hall, Idaho) by just one point.  Not until J.B. Mauney, the twelfth to ride in the short-go round had any of the bull riders stayed on their four-legged opponents for the required eight seconds.  Mauney took Diamond S Bucking Bulls’ Stray Cat for an 88.25 point trip to put himself in the lead.  But it was the former PBR World Champ who stole the show when he topped Shane of Hebert Bucking bulls for 89 points.  It was enough to secure the New Orleans Classic event title, give him the high-marked ride of the event, and maintain his lead in the BFTS standings.

When asked about his short-go round draw, McBride stated: “I’ve been bucked off of Shane before so it felt real good to get a qualified ride this time around.”

Trailing McBride in the event standings by just 292 points is the impressive youngster, J.B. Mauney who continues to ride his consistency all the way to the pay window.  The North Carolina kid is currently riding an astonishing 70% of his bulls, sitting second in the BFTS standings and has pocketed $312,184 PBR bucks in 2007, the most on tour to date this season.  Rounding out the top three is Clayton Williams (Carthage, Texas) the rookie who burst onto the PBR scene two weeks ago when he won the U.S. Smokeless Challenger Championship in Oklahoma City.

The BFTS makes uninterrupted stops from now through the end of April, promising bull riding fans one of the most intense and grueling races in national sports to decide who will wear the million dollar PBR crown at the end of the 2007 season.

Injury Report: Ross Coleman (Molalla, Ore.) sustained a concussion and possible facial fractures.  He will not be competing the rest of the weekend.

BEHIND THE CHUTES:

Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s “Ride with the Best” Match-up Bonus : As the winner of the St. Louis, Mo. event, Matt Bohon (Cole Camp, Mo.) was eligible for the Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus money in New Orleans, La. Bohon was successful in the first round on Big Stick owned by Tino Martinez, thus awarding him $5,000 dollars in bonus money this weekend.  Bohon was unsuccessful in the second round against Sleepy owned by Tony Sharp, thus awarding the $5,000 to the bull’s owner.  As the event winner, Justin McBride (Elk City, Okla.) will be eligible for the bonus next weekend in Kansas City.

Ford Truck Moment of Truth Bonus: Wiley Petersen (Fort Hall, Idaho) led the event going into the Built Ford Tough Championship round.  Because Petersen did not finish in the top spot, the Ford Truck Moment of Truth will increase to $20,000 next weekend in Kansas City.

Ford Super Duty Challenge: As the event winner, Justin McBride (Elk City, Okla.) has qualified for a chance to compete at the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, against all other 2007 Built Ford Tough Series event winners, for $50,000 toward the purchase of a 2007 Ford Super Duty Truck. The Ford Super Duty Challenge contestant who finishes the highest in the event aggregate during the 2007 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals will win the Ford Super Duty Challenge.

Bully Dog Short Go Top Qualifier:  Wiley Petersen (Fort Hall, Ida.) was awarded $2,500 for being the bull rider with the highest cumulative score (i.e. highest in the event average) going into the Built Ford Tough Championship Round and for properly displaying the Top Qualifier Patch.

Salem National Lease Bull of the Event: Klein/Tutt’s Cochise accrued a 45.5 bull score, which was enough to claim the High Marked Bull of the Event title and $1,250 as a part of Salem National Lease’s exciting bonus program. The program awards $1,250 to the top bull of the event as determined by the PBR judges’ bull scores.

Cabela’s World’s Foremost Ride: Justin McBride (Elk City, Okla.) recorded the highest marked ride of the event when he topped Shane of Hebert Bucking Bulls for 89 points.  In doing so, he earned a $1,000 bonus.

The rider who achieves the highest score at each BFTS regular season event during the 2007 BFTS regular season excluding the PBR World Finals receives a bonus of $1,000 for the event. The PBR athlete who achieves the highest marked qualifying ride during the entire 2007 BFTS regular season, excluding the PBR World Finals event will receive $25,000, while second and third place finishers will be awarded $10,000 and $5,000 respectively. The bull rider that achieves the highest marked ride through the course of the entire 2007 PBR BFTS World Finals will earn an additional $10,000.

Rocky McDonald (Col. Juarez, Mexico) is in the lead for the Cabela’s World’s Foremost Ride bonus of $25,000 with his 92-point performance in New York City earlier this season on Page & Teague Bucking Bulls’ Sunshine.
