Results from the Sandia Resort & Casino presents the Ty Murray Invitational
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (April 1, 2007) – The Professional Bull Riders’ (PBR) Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS) made its fourteenth tour stop of 2007 in Albuquerque, N.M. on March 30 through April 1 at Tingley Coliseum. Three-time PBR World Champion Adriano Moraes (Cachoeira Paulista, Sao Paulo, Brazil) capped off April Fools Day with a serious win, accumulating $32,520 and the title of Ty Murray Invitational event champion.
With $3.3 million in PBR career earnings to his credit, Moraes’s current 31.43 percent riding average is grossly under-par from his career average of 56.34 percent. Plagued by intense back pain and buck offs in 2007, the 36-year-old veteran battled back in Albuquerque to gain valuable BFTS series points.
“This is the first time I’d ever drawn Hot Stuff of Diamond S Bucking Bulls. I was excited to have the bull and had good momentum going into the championship round. He’s an intimidating because he’s bad in the chute, but J.W. (Hart) helped me so I had a fair shot,” said Moraes.
Incidentally, the bull Hot Stuff has turfed 84.62 percent of all challengers and unseated current world standings leader Justin McBride (Elk City, Okla.) during final round action of the Kansas City, Mo. BFTS event in March. Cosmo, Adriano’s bull in the third round, had unseated him in Oklahoma City. Okla. in February but this time he came out on top by scoring an 88 on the D&H/Anderson bull.
It was Kasey Hayes (Liberal, Kan.) who led the roster of 15 bull riders who had qualified to compete in the Built Ford Tough Championship round on Sunday. Hayes, however, came up short against Chad Berger/Ryken/Hawks’ bull Bond, James Bond, while Guilherme Marchi (Leme, Sao Paulo, Brazil), followed by Moraes, dominated short round action. Marchi achieved 92.25 points against Page and Teague Bucking Bulls’ Black Smoke, while Moraes logged the only other qualified ride of the finals with 89.25 points aboard Hot Stuff.
Moraes had to be at least 89.25 points in order to unseat his fellow countryman Marchi for the win. Moraes’s final round effort brought his total on three bulls to 265.5 points, which delivered the victory by a scant one quarter of one point over Marchi. Hayes finished in third with a total on three bulls of 264 points, while Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.) rounded out the top four with a total of 255.50 points.
Justin McBride (Elk City, Okla.) maintains a stranglehold on the BFTS world standings by 817.25 series points. No. 2 ranked J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.) who strongly challenges McBride week in a week out on the tour.
The Friday night performance in Albuquerque featured an American Bucking Bull, Inc. (ABBI) Classic competition for three- and four-year old bulls. Top contenders will qualify to compete for the title of World Bucking Bull Classic Champion, which will be determined in Las Vegas, Nev., in conjunction with the 2007 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals. Julio and Cindy Moreno’s bull Troubadour achieved 90.75 points to earn $10,875 in ABBI bucks, while C/G Rodeo Livestock’s Spitfire finished second with an 89.25 point score good for $6,214.
Travis Briscoe (Edgewood, NM) suffered an injury to his right groin and is questionable to compete.
Cole Taylor (Sayre, Okla.) tore the PCL in his right knee on Friday night and is doubtful to compete.

The bull rider that achieves the highest marked ride through the course of the entire 2007 PBR BFTS World Finals will earn an additional $10,000.
