AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (April 14, 2007) – The Professional Bull Riders’ (PBR) Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS) made its fifteenth tour stop of 2007 in Auburn Hills, Mich., April 13-14 at the Palace of Auburn Hills. 2005 PBR World Champion Justin McBride (Elk City, Okla.) didn’t alleviate his burden on tax day, adding to his income with a hefty $43,442 win. The Built Ford Tough Invitational event championship marks McBride’s sixth tour title of 2007 — a feat that has him tying the record of most single season BFTS event wins that he already shared with Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.) and Cody Hart (Gainesville, Texas).

With $3,397,303 in PBR career earnings to his credit, McBride, 27, is currently riding an impressive 70.2 percent of his bulls and is on pace to maintain his lead for the million dollar PBR World Championship. He has qualified for Built Ford Tough Championship rounds at 12 of the 15 events he’s attended this season, and has notched 12 top-ten finishes to boot. Aside from the record sixth 2007 event win, however, McBride has his eye on the big picture.

“The record is definitely cool, but the world title is my top priority and more event wins means a greater chance at earning that championship. A million dollar bonus makes doing the second thing that I love in life, besides riding bulls, much easier, and that’s ranching,” said McBride.

McBride now leads the BFTS point standings by 1,292.5 series points over J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.), who finished ninth overall in Auburn Hills, but suffered a shoulder separation in the process (see injury report).

“I had Chicken on a Chain in the short go. He’s a great bull that I’ve seen a couple of times and I was excited to have him in the finals. He was just outstanding. He was away from my hand the whole time and just blowing and really bucking. He’s one of the ranker bulls that I’ve been on in a while,” said McBride.

Chicken on a Chain, owned by Robinson, Tedesco and Larry the Cable Guy, was rank to the tune of 93 championship points, allowing McBride to cement the victory. After two rounds, McBride led the average by only one-half of a point over nearest threat Tater Porter (Kenansville, Fla.). Porter, however, was not successful on his final round bull Holy Moly of Page & Teague Bucking Bulls, thus clearing the way for Randleman, NC’s Brian Canter to capture second place honors after turning in an 89.75 point score aboard Berger Bucking Bulls and Craig Smith’s bull McClintock in the final round. McBride rallied 268.5 points on three bulls for first; Canter finished second with a total of 263.5 points; and Dustin Hall (Springfield, Mo.) rounded out the top three with a total of 257.50 points.
