PUEBLO, Colo. (December 10, 2007) – The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) announces a new draft system that will allow bull riders to choose their bulls at three-day Built Ford Tough Series events. The new format kicks off on January 4-6 at the VERSUS Invitational at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This will mark the first time in PBR history that a rider can choose his bull in competition.

The system works by allowing the bull rider who wins round one to pick his bull first for the second round. He is followed in succession by the remaining 44 contestants based on scores. After all of the riders who received scores have selected their bulls, the riders will select their bulls based on their buck-off times with the quickest buck-off time picking last. The selection process will happen several hours prior to second round competition. The VERSUS Invitational draft will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5th in New York City at the Hawaiian Tropic located at 729 7th Avenue. All fans and media are invited.

Also at three-day events, the riders will choose their bulls for the Built Ford Tough Championship round; the bull rider who is in the lead will get to pick his bull first. Then, the remaining 14 contestants will pick their bulls with the rider in 15th position choosing last. This selection process will happen during intermission.

PBR Livestock Director Cody Lambert will continue to set the pen of bulls for each round but believes the draft system offers a new advantage to the fans. “The fans will get to know the riders and find out which bull rider wants the toughest bull and which one wants the easiest bull. It’s one thing to talk a big game, but when you’re picking your own poison, it’s a different situation.

“It will allow the fans to see the personalities of the cowboys and see which new riders want the chance to stick it on bulls like Reindeer [Dippin’] and become a hero for riding him.”
